An overview of how to successfully complete a website migration without causing your site traffic to tank or rankings you’ve spent years trying to acquire to get lost. This talk would be applicable either to sites that are migrating from a different CMS to WP, staying in WP but doing something else like going to https or contracting pages, or in situations where multiple sites need to be merged into one domain.
Questions the session would answer could include: What are good reasons for doing a move like this? What are the best practices to think about? What are some things you won’t find on a best practices list that you need to think about? How does Google react to a site migration like this? What can you do to make sure your traffic doesn’t tank? If your traffic does tank, what can you do to course correct, etc.?
Could do this with hypothetical scenarios, but I also have checklists available to present and real life case studies from times I have managed this both as a team member at DOM and in other professional stops.
